Create a financial inventory from your statements

Record account balances and investment values

Identify each account by institution and a short reference, then enter its value and date. State whether an investment figure includes cash held in the account. Use Documents for a supporting PDF and the source field to describe the statement.

Keep household goods in the household asset inventory. A bank balance needs a dated financial record rather than a quantity, photo or sentimental preference.

For a joint account that is still being used, choose a balance date and explain later withdrawals or deposits separately. Changing the balance without that context makes two statements hard to compare. Equity.me records the figures entered; it does not connect to your bank or reconcile transactions.

These are example balances, not proposed shares. Ownership and allocation are recorded separately.

Keep ownership questions separate from balances

An account may be in one name while its treatment remains a question for the settlement. Record the balance and explain what needs checking. Details about where funds came from, including gifts or inheritance, can support that discussion.

The inventory does not decide which funds must be shared. A professional reviewing the dossier can comment on the question without confirming an arrangement for either partner.

Distinguish outstanding debts from costs already paid

For a loan, credit card or other unpaid obligation, enter the outstanding amount as a positive number and select debt. Agreed debts reduce the net balance. Include the creditor and statement date, and identify any disputed responsibility.

Use Costs for fees already paid, such as a mediator’s bill, when you want to record a reimbursement between partners. Do not also list the same paid fee as an outstanding debt. A proposed allocation does not amend the creditor’s agreement.

Check the financial inventory before proposing a split

A mortgage already deducted in the home equity record must not appear as a second debt. Likewise, an investment account’s cash should not be counted separately if it is already included in the account total.

The recorded estimates show what has been entered. The asset division balance uses confirmed proposals and the chosen overall split, so it can differ while financial entries remain unresolved.

Equal recorded values do not necessarily provide equal usable cash. Savings, investments and a pension can have different access restrictions, sale costs and tax treatment. Record the stated value and any unresolved adjustment; obtain specialist advice for pensions, business interests or assets that cannot simply be transferred. The tool does not calculate those adjustments for you.

Financial inventory questions

Can I connect a bank or broker account?

No. Enter balances manually. The current application has no bank or brokerage connection.

Can a financial record be split by percentage?

Yes. Propose the percentage for that entry and have both partners confirm it. This entry-specific arrangement is separate from the overall asset split.

Can the dossier hold more than one currency?

Choose one currency for the dossier. The application does not convert amounts. Resolve how any foreign-currency balance should be represented before recording it.

Does Equity.me calculate pension entitlements?

No. Pension rights may need a separate process and specialist advice. They are not calculated automatically from the financial inventory.

Can I export the financial records?

Yes. The Report tab offers shared item records as CSV and a PDF of the wider dossier. Private notes are excluded.
