Equity Calculators for Founders and Employees

Each calculator on Equity.me automates a specific equity calculation. These pages explain the exact formula behind each tool, what inputs it needs, a worked example with round numbers, and where the result has limits so you can sanity check it yourself.

Equity calculators for founders and employees

Equity Calculator

The equity calculator estimates what a given equity percentage could be worth at a future exit, based on an assumed company valuation and expected dilution between now and then. It is a planning tool, not a valuation of any real grant.

Dilution Calculator

The dilution calculator shows how much an existing shareholder's percentage falls when a company issues new shares in a funding round. It compares ownership before and after the round based on the new money raised and the pre money valuation.

Vesting Calculator

The vesting calculator works out how much of a grant has vested at a given date, based on the vesting start date, total vesting period, cliff length, and vesting frequency. It shows the same math a company would use to update a cap table over time.

Option Pool Calculator

The option pool calculator works out how large an option pool needs to be, as a percentage of the company, to cover planned employee grants, and shows how creating or topping up a pool dilutes existing shareholders before a round closes.

Equity Split Calculator

The equity split calculator turns weighted inputs, such as time committed, capital contributed, and role, into a suggested ownership split between co founders. It produces a starting point for discussion, not a definitive answer.

Stock Option Calculator

The stock option calculator estimates the gain from exercising options, based on the number of options, the strike price, and an assumed future share price. It also shows the cash needed to exercise, separate from the eventual gain.

Startup Valuation Calculator

The startup valuation calculator derives pre money and post money valuation from the amount being raised and the percentage of the company being sold, and can also work in the other direction if the founder starts from a target valuation.
