Equity.me questions and answers

Answers about the $39 fee, working with your partner, calculations and report downloads.

Using the calculator and shared dossier

Can I start an inventory before inviting my partner?

Yes. Add your belongings first and invite your partner later. Choose a quantity and tap an item to add it; values and details can wait. Nothing becomes agreed until both partners confirm the same proposal.

What does the $39 dossier fee cover?

One shared consumer dossier for both partners, with 12 months of access and PDF and CSV exports. Payment is made through Stripe before starting a paid dossier. See Equity.me dossier pricing for the fee and its limits.

What happens after 12 months?

The dossier creator can extend access for another 12 months at $39 from Dossier settings. Extend before the expiry date to keep your records. Without an extension, we delete the dossier after access ends. Download any reports you need first. We never charge you automatically.

Is an Equity.me report legally binding?

Equity.me does not certify the legal effect of a report or participant confirmations. The report records the proposals accepted in the tool; it does not transfer ownership or change a mortgage. Formal requirements depend on your circumstances and the applicable law.

How does the calculator handle unequal contributions?

Choose a percentage, return selected contribution credits before dividing the remainder, or divide all equity in the ratio of those contributions. The unequal down payment examples show how much the results can differ. The calculator does not select a legal entitlement.

Are my calculator inputs saved?

They remain on the page until you choose “Use this scenario in my inventory”. That action keeps a draft in the current browser tab while you sign in. Review and import it within 30 minutes. Saving or discarding removes the temporary copy; expired drafts are rejected and removed when opened.

Creating the inventory saves the figures to the shared dossier. No financial amounts are placed in the page URL. The privacy policy explains the saved records and deletion controls.

Who can read my private notes?

Only the account that wrote them. Other participants cannot see them, and the shared PDF and CSV exclude them. Shared comments are visible to dossier members.

Can I change a proposal after confirming it?

Yes. A changed proposal needs fresh confirmations from both partners. You can also withdraw your own approval without editing the other partner’s response.

Does the borrowing estimate mean a lender will approve me?

No. It uses your inputs to illustrate a replacement loan and principal-and-interest payment. A lender must assess the actual application. The home buyout process explains where financing checks belong.

Can I export before we agree everything?

Yes. The PDF includes open proposals and labels a balance as partial while items remain unresolved. CSV exports the shared item records. The [sample property settlement report](/#home-report-title) shows an agreed home buyout alongside an unresolved household item.

Can one dossier contain several currencies?

Choose one currency for the dossier. Equity.me does not convert balances or apply exchange rates. For an asset held in another currency, establish the conversion amount, rate and date you want to use, and keep that explanation with the record for review. A currency choice does not select the law governing the settlement.

Why use a shared dossier instead of a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet may be enough for a list. Equity.me adds each partner’s responses, a review queue and confirmations tied to the same proposal. The report separates agreements from open questions, so your next meeting can focus on decisions rather than checking which figures are current.
